My hands are horribly shakey right now. I did some weed whacking today. My dog came out with me and thought I was playing. She just kept running over and away, over and away, thinking "You sway that thing back and forth. I'll do the same thing, but with all of me."

Now to play some more Prince or Persia or something and hope my shakey hands don't get me killed too much.

Okay, Jake just pointed this out on facebook. It seemed too cool not to pass on.

A recent post about obscure muppet stuff by [livejournal.com profile] _dragonwolf_ prompted me to look into a couple of bizare old muppet specials I'd seen years ago. The first is from a story about a frog in a rainforest. The second is from The Christmas Toy, which did the concept of Toy Story before there was a Toy Story. These are snippets from each.

I will do a Vestival post at some point, but not today. As a quick thing, the weekend was a lot of fun and I enjoyed every game I played in.

I have posted photos I took over on facebook, for any that want to see them.

Otherwise, I am mostly just crashing today. I don't think my brain is quite working yet, so it's a good thing I scheduled myself off today.

So, we have just had a drop in School for Young Women. We are looking for a replacement for Erik the Red, viking. The character is male, so the player should either be male or comfortable playing male.

If you know someone, point them at me, Don, [livejournal.com profile] gower or [livejournal.com profile] jingsaw. At a certain point, I will be leaving home and heading to Brandeis, so I can be found there later, but I will return home later tonight to check email and stuff.

Edit: Role is now filled.

From [livejournal.com profile] zombie_dog, this is a meme where you get a color and list ten things you love that are that color. I was given brown.

Here are ten brown things I like.

1. Packages from Amazon - they're like little surprises except I ordered them.

2. Dr. Who's outfit - David Tennant version.

3. My hat - It's a fedora!

4. Chocolate - is there anyone who doesn't like chocolate?

5. Browncoats - I've got Firefly on the brain lately.

6. Clayface - He's a cool villain.

7. Chewbacca - what a wookie!

8. Hamburgers - I am a carnivore.

9. Brown hair - It's not the only color I like, but I do like it.

10. Sebastian Phule's mystery prop - some other players know what it is.

On the good news front, I feel like we mostly have a list of returning characters from Tis No Deceit for Interesting Times. We are going to set the game roughly five to ten years later, so it will be more of a steampunk supers kind of setting, with singing.

Choice of returning characters is primarily based on whether people still have some story left in them, plus how they can be warped into a superhero or villain. Everyone in the sequel will fall into that kind of category now. I think we'll be going with close to a fifty/fifty split on new versus returning characters.

School for Young Women is almost full. We have five males spots left, out of 42 players. I've had at least a couple women who returned apps who don't mind crost casting, so that is an option if there are still women who want to sign up.

Speaking of apps, I sent out the app last night. As of right now, I've gotten back 19 of them. That's a pretty good return rate for one day.

My favorite response on an app so far has been, "I hate you guys so much. Die in a fire." I feel like I must have done something right. :)

The evil part of me wants to cast based on that comment, but I'm not quite that evil ...... okay, I am, but not as far as casting is concerned. Casting is casting. It's all about what will make a great game for everyone.

The player list is made of cool. There are a lot of people I know on it, as well as a few I don't. For one player, this will be their first weekend trying larps, so hopefully it doesn't scare her away. For another, this will be her third game. Clearly, she hasn't learned her lessen yet and is now addicted like the rest of us.

In other news, I am working this Thursday, so will not be at BSCF. We doing set up for a sale. As a result, I am actually off on Friday instead.

I have no plans right now. If anyone would care to do something, let me know. I don't usually have a free Friday, unless I specifically take it off for a larp, so this is kind of unusual for me. I'd love to find something to do with the day.

However, my suspician is that everyone I know is spending the weekend at PAX, which I am not attending. :(

There are too many games that I want to play at Vestival. Most of the games scheduled are ones I haven't played before. I can't play them all - not without special temporal equipment that just hasn't come in the mail yet.

I am unsure what I want to play in the slots in which I am not running something. Saturday morning, I have a strong leaning towards Oz, because I keep missing it. Otherwise, I am less certain in other areas.

Any thoughts?

Gaming tonight was fun. Tried a game called Thunderstone. It is a deck building game, somewhat similar to Dominion. The difference is you are putting together an adventuring party to slay monsters. I did very well, winning with thirty points.

Also, I played a game called Encore, a music game in which you try to remember a line from a song that uses a particular word. I am not that good at this game. My music knowledge (for remembering lines) mostly consists of Weird Al, Jonathan Coulton, They Might be Giants (mostly the Flood album), Disney movies, Buffy and Dr. Horrible ... and songs from Tis No Deceit if that counts. I am not sure this makes for a good selection to remember from.

It was fun and I'd probably play again, but I do prefer a game where I feel like I have a better chance to be part of it. I also apparently have a bit of a stagefright thing when it comes to singing. I wasn't sure if I did, but I seem to. When I tried to sing, I mostly just trailed off. I should probably try playing again to overcome that, but there's probably a better way to do that than to be the only one singing in a room full of people staring at you.

Overall, Apples to Apples is my prefered social game out of ones I have played. I have fun with that game every time I play, and now want to play again having put the thought into my head.

Extra random note: Liz Lemon makes a great muppet.

Going to BSCF tonight for gaming. Should be fun. Next Thursday, I will likely need to work, so will miss that one. I may actually be off on the Friday of that week, if anything interesting is going on then.

I'm heading out towards Worcester on Sunday to check out the WPI gaming thing. Then, I've been invited along to Don's place for further gaming afterwards. It should be a fun day.

After that, the next thing I've got planned is Serendipity in April. I should probably figure out my costuming for that at some point. I wanted to find a Chinese looking vest that will fit me, but haven't had time to really do so. I'm not sure what my expense budget is for this also. I may need to be somewhat off on costuming for the first game and improve for a later game.

The weekend after is Vestival of the Larps, during which I will be running School for Young Women. I approve of any convention which requires people to wear vests. I have a plethora of them. That's why it's called Vestival, right? Clearly, this weekend was designed with me in mind.

We are currently is discussion stages of Interesting Times, as to the exact setting we are going to use. We may in fact be setting it much closer in time frame to Tis No Deceit, and bringing back several characters from the first game as hero/villains now, with crappy and lame powers. This would result in more of a steampunk heroic setting.

No matter what we decide, it's going to be singing again. We're just debating the rest of the setting right now, so the blurb may change a little once we decide.
